office. Those grants have provided money for training of personnel, equipment for the office and increased monies to allow funding for overtime for officers so that they can conduct special county programs.
Dodson says the level of professionalism officers now exhibit and the degree to which personnel in the office are now trained is, he believes, the highest it has ever been here. But with the good comes the bad — the increased and increasing level of paperwork personnel are responsible for.
The change in the domestic violence laws last July alone generated a huge amount of extra paperwork since the state now requires several additional forms per case than it previously did. There are not, however, any more bodies to do this additional work. “The paperwork,” Dodson said, “has about tripled from when 1 began this job in 1989.” But Dodson considers it all part of the job.
