Mr. Wayland served in the United States Navy during World War II and became a member of Veterans of Foreign War and the American Legion. He was retired from the Life Insurance Industry. He enjoyed golfing, camping and time spent with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Annie Hitt Wayland and by two sons; Lawrence E. Wayland and his wife Gloria Jean of Fredericksburg and James A. Wayland, Jr. and his wife Virginia of Pagosa Springs, Col.
He is also survived by one sister, Kathryn Hall of Front Royal, two brothers, Julian Wayland of Leesburg and Richard Wayland of Boston.
Additional survivors include three grandchildren, Lawrence Wayland, Jr., Angela Wayland and Phillip Wayland; one great-grandchild, Kayla Wayland and a number of nieces and nephews.
