This is the second in a series of stories about the men and women in the sheriff’s office — an in depth look at the person behind the badge.
He has never had to pull his gun on anyone. Nor has he had to investigate an armed robbery or murder. And, he has never been assaulted. Those kinds of crimes don’t often happen here. He is glad of that.
The flip side — he has had to arrest friends and deal with crimes against children,, which he says “are the worst. They just don’t make sense. People need to learn to talk out their problems.” But overall, he’ll tell you, he loves his job.
Deputy Ronnie Dodson of the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Office looked into being a law enforcement officer while a student at Rappahannock High School. He talked to friends who were already working in the field and decided it sounded good.
For the last seven years he has been a road deputy with the sheriff’s office and has been with that office now for nine years. The commitment to community safety is what he feels is important and what he tries to convey to people here. It is a commitment he feels deeply, being a native, and one that
