Day two began around 6:30 a.m. We met the island students at the dock as they waited for the bus boat. They were not very awake either. After breakfast, we boarded the work boat with Capt. Denny to go into shallow bay water, three to four feet, to scrape for softshell crabs. We had very little luck, but were quite impressed when Denny swallowed a small softshell crab whole. He said it was delicious! We brought up lots of crabs, but very few were softshell. Most students became proficient at picking up crabs without being pushed.
