am a part of a local transplant group that has met monthly for the last 10 years at the town hospital. There are about 50 people who participate. We work with other patients and those awaiting surgery.” Yoder cites the United Network for Organ Sharing as an effective national resource designed to work on organ retrieval, local education and general awareness.
According to the survivor, she is sustained by a strong faith, a supportive family, and a philosophy once articulated by her 80-year-old neighbor. “If God gave us life, he meant for us to do all that we can to stay alive and to work at living abundantly.” Working as an activities therapist at Philhaven psychiatric facility, she says she has tried to live up to that challenge every day of her life.
“I remember this daily, particularly as I work with many persons struggling with mental health issues and fighting for reasons to stay alive.”
