• Wow! DARE/Field Day at RCES was once again an outstanding success. It is always a pleasure to see the community come together so energetically to support this wonderful program for our students and the community. Many thanks to the volunteer parents, community friends, and the Rappahannock Sheriff’s Department, most notably Captain Jeff Brown, who helped to make this a truly memorable event.
In addition to the more than 50 exhibitors who were able to attend, we were especially happy to welcome the United States Marine Corps Band to RCES. This wonderful treat for our students was arranged through the efforts of our Band Director, Mrs. Lynne Fournier.
•In the Courtyard and Butterfly Garden, a multitude of wonderful folks from a variety of agencies and our public schools were on hand to meet with parents of preschool students. They were here to offer information on incredible programs offered by their agencies to parents of children under five, and testing, if needed. These folks care greatly about children and it showed!
Agencies represented were Family Guidance, Social Services, Health Department, Parent Infant Education, CCLC, Virginia Cooperative Extension and more. Special thanks to volunteer Ms. Barbara Adolfi and Special Education Director Mrs. Helen Williams for their help in organizing this event and to all the teachers who participated.
• The RCES fourth and fifth grade Science Fair is scheduled for Thursday, June 1, with a different twist. The exhibits are being set up in classrooms where parents and other students will be allowed to visit and view them. The projects are wonderful as usual! Congratulations to the students for their hard work. Open House for parents and community friends who would like to visit the fair will be from 6-7.30 p.m. Thursday evening.
