Sperryville. Bobby Carter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Carter of Amissville, was declared winner of the Sears-Roebuck Foundation sponsored 1949-50 Breeding Pig Contest, carrying a $60 prize. Bobby plans to use this money in purchasing a registered Guernsey heifer.

After covering an estimated one and a quarter million miles in 17 automobiles, Trooper WA Buntin has retired from the Virginia Department of State Police. His 29 years of service, all in Rappahannock, was officially completed May 31, 1975. He joined VSP on April 1, 1946 at a starting salary of $1800 a year and was required to work 10 hours a day, six days a week. Cary Gordon Thornhill Jr. of Boston will graduate Saturday from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in Blacksburg receiving a bachelor of science degree in animal science.
