Duties: Assists in the maintenance and enhancement of habitats and facilities on assigned Wildlife Management Areas within the northern piedmont region of Virginia through the application of farming, forestry and land management practices. Maintains and improves facilities by performing accepted carpentry practices and operating heavy equipment. Assists in collecting biological data on wildlife populations, and interacts with the public regarding agency programs.
Requirements: Working knowledge of operating and maintaining heavy equipment including tractors, farm implements, vehicles. ATV’s and boats, some knowledge of generally acceptecf practices of farming, manipulation of forestland \. and basic data collection techniques. Kill in using heavy equipment, hand tools, and carpentry skills to repair and maintain facilities. Demonstrated ability to learn habits and requirements of wildlife, to communicate effectively, to follow oral and written instructions, to perform manual labor in varying climatic conditions, to lead others in work projects, and to work independently. High school diploma, or equivalent; possession of, or eligibility for, a valid Virginia driver’s license with a CDL endorsement; and related experience in farming or forestry.
