jFT^he countrywide shortage of blood for use by hos» I pitals continues, according to the American Red * JL Cross. ■ In an effort to assist the American Red Cross in Jneeting its quota, the Rappahannock Family and [Community Educators Club will sponsor a Bloodmobile visit to the county next Wednesday, June 227. It will be held at the Washington fire hall from 3 fto 7 p.m. The hours are extended into the evening to •encourage residents to stop by on the way home from ■work. 1 Several years ago the Red Cross published a piece Entitled, “What Good is a Blood Donor?” Given the iurrent critical shortage, it is worth reading and printing again. ■ “A blood donor is good for people who go through •windshields and red lights . . . For somebody with leukemia . . . For people being operated on . . . For ^barefoot kids who aren’t careful... For victims of violence . . . For daredevils . . . For someone going Ihrough dialysis while waiting for a kidney transplant 2 . . For little kids who manage to uncap a bottle of ■something poisonous . . . For people who are badly ►burned . . . For new mothers needing transfusions . . ■ For a new baby who needs a complete change of blood supply. . . For someone having open-heart surgery . . For kids who fall out of trees or anywhere else . . For anybody any age with bleeding ulcers. . . For people Un the wrong place at the wrong time. . . For the very ftired with severe anemia ... For people who run into Storings . . . For all the people who are in a lot worse yhape than most people you know. A blood donor is Jgood for life.” * We urge any county residents who are able to donate blood (and that includes almost all adults, regardless of age) to assist the Red Cross and the Family and Community Educators Club of ; Rappahannock as they work to alleviate the crisis facing the nation’s blood supply. ■ Start the summer out right — donate blood, jjtemember, the life you save may be your own — or Someone you love.
