Though there will be no vendors, parade, music, or fireworks, the Mayor did hold out hopes for some kind of event on the Fourth of July, and suggested that there might be a speech or two at Avon Hall.
Capital projects
Mayor Willis reported on wastewater treatment system progress, noting that the draft soils analysis of potential drainfield sites at Avon Hall was received and that “it looks good,” and that a draft of the preliminary engineering report was also received. A meeting was scheduled for April 11 with the Virginia Department of Health to review the proposed system and site, and he later reported that the Department of Health requires “reengineering in a few areas,” and hopes to resolve those issues at a meeting during the week of April 15.
The Mayor also informed the Council that the preliminary engineering report estimated the cost of the wastewater treatment system covering the central area of the Town at $1.25 million, and if there were no objection he would meet with the Rural Development Administration to further investigate system financ
