On April 9, 2002, the seventh grade class of RCES embarked on a time - honored pilgrimage to Williamsburg and beyond. Were it not for the continued support of our community, this long -standing rite of passage might well fade into memory.
Surely at times, all that have inherited the responsibility for planning this endeavor would admit to wondering whether all the work was really worth it. I for one admit that while plowing through fundraising orders and numerous re-writes of bus lists and pizza orders, I have often questioned the sanity of signing on for such an undertaking.
Those questions along with many others I have had in recent months were answered this past week upon the smiling faces of 75 children who for this brief moment in time belonged to me.
I suppose it only fair to tell you of our adventure so you know that we did in fact go for purely academic reasons. We left early in the morning among sleepy eyes and parental anxiety , for our first destination, the Virginia Marine Science Museum. We watched otters play, sharks be fed and explored a cave or two if only in our minds eye.
We then headed back west to our home away from home in Williamsburg. We enjoyed a wonderful play that evening entitled Remember Me. It was about the history of slavery, as it became a part of the culture in colonial years and beyond. The next day dawned to a rigorous morning and afternoon
