In observance of Private Property Week the Piedmont Board of Realtors donated two dogwood trees and planted them at Rappahannock County High School. School students under the direction of faculty member David Stalker set out the trees. On hand for the event were Principal Dennis Wingfield, John Barbour of Panorama Realty in Sperryville, who was chairman of the project for the Realty Board, Mr. Stalker and students, Mitchell Williams, Ralph Jackson, Emmett Stark, Andy Settle, Joe Keys and Lewis Foster.
In a photo, the granddaddy of all pear trees lives at Clifton, the property of Dr. and Mrs. Robert Rodgers on Route 729 near Flint Hill. This state champion tree measures seven feet and nine inches in circumference and is 79 feet tall, all of which is most unusual for a fruit tree. This is an extremely ancient variety which horticulturist could not readily identify but Mrs. Rodgers said the fruit was large and tasty and made delightful jelly.
David Yokum, Postmaster at Amissville bagged a 22 pound wild turkey early Wednesday morning.
