You can tell spring is really here. The grass has gotten so green with all the good rain. The Poplar trees are showing their tiny leaves. The Red Bud is bursting out all over with their beautiful flowers, and the Dogwood is beginning to make its beautiful appearance.
At the time of the crucifixion, the Dogwood had reached the size of the mighty Oak and other forest trees. The tree was so strong and firm that it was chosen as the timber for the cross.
As legend tells it. the tree was so distressed to be used for such a cruel purpose. Christ made a promise that still holds true today, the Dogwood Tree will never grow large enough to be used for a cross. The tree shall be slender and bent and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross - two long and two short peddles. In the center of the outer edges of each petal there will be nail prints, brown with rust and stained with red. In the center of the flower stained with blood will be a crown of thorns for all who see it will remember.
