and Turner started off slowly, trying to feel each other out. After several deadlocks, Conner scored a take down to lead 2-0. Then Conner scored two more for back points, before being penalized one point for stalling. Going into the third period with a 4-1 lead, Conner chose the down position. He hit a reversal on the whistle to close out the scoring at 6-1 and rode out the remaining minute to his second victory.
Conner’s third match was against Marshall Robinson. Marshall placed fifth earlier at the Virginia Middle School Wrestling Tournament. Conner was aggressive from the opening whistle and let 5-0 at the end of the first period. Marshall chose the down position in the second period. Conner quickly flattened Marshall and ran a Michigan Arm Bar finishing in a pin for his third victory.
This puts Conner in the finals facing Henry Carlson, the number one seed in the tournament, from the Kellum Wrestling Club. It turned out that Henry became sick after his semi final match and was unable to answer the call for the finals.
Conner was disappointed with the walkover victory, but was elated with winning his second state title this season.
