The varsity boys’ soccer team captured the Bull Run District regular season title with a come-from-behind 3-2 win over George Mason.
The tfeam trailed early in the game as the Mustangs scored twice in the first 15 minutes of the contest. The Panthers were able to get a score in the first half to cut the halftime margin to 2-1.
The Panthers scored again about midway through the second half to tie the score and got the game winner from Dos Allen with about 10 minutes remaining in the contest. John Letsen and Ralph Pace also scored for the Panthers.
The win means the Panthers will receive a bye in the first round of the Bull Run District Tournament and will play in the District semifinals at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 22 at Clarke County.
The championship match is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Friday, May 23 also at Clarke County. The team also defeated Strasburg 8-0 but dropped its first contest of the year to Brentsville 2-0.
John Letsen had four goals against Strasburg and Tom Owens scored the first goal of his high school career against the Rams. The team’s record improved to 13-1 overall and 10-1 in the Bull Run District. A contest against Clarke County is all that remains for the team in the regular season.
