She graduated from Sperryville High School in 1930. She attended Longwood College and graduated from Madison College, now James Madison University, with a degree in Secondary Education and Administration.

She was predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Jack W. Bruce.

She is survived by a daughter, Diane Bruce, a son, Manly J. Bruce and a grandson, Carter J. Bruce, all of Rappahannock County. She is also survived by one brother, Herbert Hawkins of Wardensville, W.Va., and several cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents and brothers Gordon Hawkins, Thurman Hawkins, Felton Hawkins, Winfrey Hawkins, Alvin Lewis Hawkins and Marshall Hawkins.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 15 at 2 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Little Washington. Internment will be at Woodville Cemetery.
