Chichester, also president pro tempore of the Senate, is opposed by political consultant Mike Rothfeld of Stafford who mounted an unsuccessful run in 2000 for the 1st District congressional seat; Norment is running against Paul Jost of Williamsburg who also participated unsuccessfully in the 2000 primary; and opposing Potts is Mark Tate who lives at Middleburg in Fauquier County.
While Jost has not been regarded as part of the more conservative element, he has joined forces with those who contend the Finance Committee Republicans have not cooperated with House Republicans in efforts to trim the size of state government and reduce taxes.
