Full eclipse of the moon

The Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection invites moon lovers on Thursday, May 15 to celebrate the total eclipse of the moon and learn more about Rappahannock skies. The event begins at 9 p.m. at the Washington Fire Hall. There will be several giant binoculars and telescopes, presentations and refreshments. The eclipse itself will start at 10:03 p.m.

‘Battle of the Books ’

The annual “Battle of the Books” competition will be hosted by Wakefield Country Day School in Huntly on Sunday, May 18 at 2 p.m. Teams of middle-school students drawn from four counties will be quizzed on their knowledge and comprehension of 22 selected books read during the 20022003 academic year. Area schools participating in the meet are Culpeper Middle School, Marshall Middle School, Taylor Middle School, Warrenton Middle School, Rappahannock County Middle School. Randolph-Macon Academy, St. John the Evangelist School, and Wakefield. Everyone is invited.

Theatre concert on May 17

The final concert of the season at The Theatre in Little Washington is on May 17 at 8 p.m. Violinist Hasse Borup and cellist Amy Leung play a challenging program of works by Bach and Ravel. For further information call 675-1253 or send email to TheatreVA@aol.com.

Cheerleading tryouts

Try-outs, to include up-coming 8th graders, for the Fall JV and Varsity Cheerleading Squads will be held on June 5 at 4 pm. The list will be posted on June 6 for both squads at the high school. Contact Coach Bonnie Pullin.

Band's spring concert

The Rappahannock County High School band will perform its annual Spring Concert on Thursday, May 15 at 7 p.m. in the RCHS auditorium. The Elementary Band will have its concert on Tuesday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the RCES auditorium. The community is invited to both events.
