and engineering services for the design and construction of a new roof for the elementary school.
"Take care of the leaky roof, whatever it takes," stressed school board member Aline Johnson who was well aware of the history of repair after repair to the existing roof.
"The word lagoon' is no longer romantic to me,” chuckled Mills, adding, "when it snows, it is just trapped up there and there's nothing you can do about it."
Chappell reassured board members that at this point he would be asking for a non-binding estimate for the roof replacement costs.
Chappell, who has only been on the job for a few months, presented board members with a revised organizational chart and a proposed school improvement model. Both met with approval.
High School principal Roger Mellow and elementary school principal Dave Covington were both in attendance and echoed their agreement with Chappell's proposals.
"I've talked with most of the staff and have their support," said Chappell whose school improvement model includes various administrative, division and building leadership teams.
"This model fosters a climate of cooperation," said Chappell. "It is an inclusive process with membership that will include school employees at all levels as well as parents."
Chappell also spoke to the board about his plans to get involved in the community. "I want to visit with local businesses and church and civic organizations to tell them about our school system."
