During the next 48 hours, friends managed to bring in more than 300 additional signatures and by 3 p.m., Friday afternoon, General Registrar Mary Cleverly had authenticated 328 names—well over the necessary 298.
As a result Rappahannock residents will be able to vote yes or no in November on allowing county restaurants to serve mixed beverages.
A new venture in wildlife preservation which involves an ardent conservationist couple, the expertise of the Audubon Society and the administrative help of the Piedmont Environmental Council has turned 850 acres of rolling land in Rappahannock County into the Windrush Wildlife Sanctuary.
The sanctuary is a pilot element in the Audubon-PEC program to establish a series of wildlife sanctuaries along the eastern slopes of the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Windrush Sanctuary is the idea and the contribution of former Ambassador and Mrs. George McGhee who first proposed the concept to the Piedmont Environmental Council.
