The school was open from 1922 to 1967 and like most schools, former students recalled their days there with joy. A Rappahannock News recount of a presentation on Feb. 15, 1995 at Rappahannock County Library entitled “The Way We Were: Black School History in Rappahannock County 1871-1967” included numerous alumni and alumnae reminiscing about younger days spent at the Scrabble School.
