He was the last National League hurler to win 30 g^mes in a season, when he led the St. Louis Cardinals to the World Series championship in 1934. When his career on the field was cut short because of an injury, Dean became America’s most popular baseball announcer and introduced several generations of young people to a love of the game through his broadcast work.
