Notice of Incidental Charter Service

Virginia Regional Transit Association/VRTA intends to provide: Incidental charter service within a 100 miles of the Town of Culpeper; incidental charter service to section 501 © organizations: handicapped van charter service. Charter service would be provided by body-onchassis and conventional vans and would be available seven days a week during off-peak hours. VRTA shall not provide any charter service using equipment or facilities funded by the Federal Transit Administration to the extent that there is at least one willing and able private charter operator unless VRTA qualifies for one or more of the exceptions in 49 CFR Section 604.9 (b). Any private charter operator desiring to be considered willing and able to provide such service(s) should submit written evidence by, October 30, 2003 to: Mark McGregor, CEO c/o Virginia Regional Transit Association, 109 North Bailey Lane, Purcellville, Virginia 20132, (540) 338-7285. The evidence submitted which will be used to determine if a private operator is willing and able should include the following: 1) A statement that the private operator has the desire and the physical capability to actually provide bus and van service and 2) a copy of the documents to show that the requisite legal authority to provide such charter service and that it meets all necessary safety certification, licensing and other legal requirements to provide the proposed charter service. VRTA will review only that, information submitted by the deadline. VRTA shall complete its review within five (5) days of the deadline and within 30 days of the deadline, shall inform each private operator that submitted information what the results of the review are. The Federal Transit Administration provides $987,000 in assistance to VRTA to operate its bus service or 32% of the cost of the program. Services programs and employment opportunities offered by VRTA are available without regard to race, color, sex, age, religion, and national origin, political affiliation or handicap.
