The Rappahannock News’ Citizen of the Year for 2003 is Dr. Werner Krebser who died June 6 at his home near Flint Hill after a long struggle with cancer.
“Doc” was a family doctor and a farmer. He was a penniless immigrant and a man of wealth and influence. He was a husband and father. He was a conservationist and county planner. He was a strongly opinionated debater, but listened intently to all sides, of an issue. But mostly he was a friend and mentor who cared about the people and the land of Rappahannock County.
The Rappahannock News salutes the late Dr. Werner Krebser as its 2003 Citizen of the Year. This is the first time the newspaper has given the award posthumously.
“Dr. Krebser contributed significantly to the health and welfare of the county,” said Bob Lander, president of the Rappahannock League for Environmental Protection, upon learning of Krebser’s award.
