“The students’ hard work and dedication made the program this year,” Mello said. “They did it all. I’m really proud of them.”
Navy veteran Joel Daczewitz, whose son recently returned from service in Iraq, summed it up for all veterans: “I’m glad I came. This was a great tribute to the vets because the students did it. They made it worth it for me.”
Numerous American flags were placed around the oval in front of the high school building. Families and friends donated these flags to honor their special veteran. The flags caused each person to pause and reflect, with his or her memories, none being the same as another, because each experienced their war as only he or she could.
