The phone incident which occurred at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 7 was reported to the Rappahannock County Sheriff’s Office which is conducting an investigation. The fire company and sheriff’s deputies request that anyone who receives such a call report it to the sheriff’s office immediately, providing as much detail as possible: How was the donation to be paid? Where was it to be sent? Did a number appear on caller ID?
Meanwhile, Company 4 recently received a letter from a retired neighbor of limited means who offered many ideas in support of the department’s work, along with a generous donation.
In light of that touching gift, Company 4 President Monica Worth said, “I just can’t stand the idea that she, or anyone else in our community, would be ripped off in the name of the fire department.
“We are making incremental steps forward with the continued help of our exceptional neighbors. I want to reassure our donors that we would never pressure them for any purpose. We’re very grateful to the person who alerted us to this fraud,” said Worth.
