PEC organization
PEC is a 32-year-old nonprofit organization dedicated to “promoting and protecting the Virginia Piedmont’s rural economy, natural resources, history and beauty.” PEC operates in a nine-county area, with staff on the ground in each county working at the local level. They use a dual approach to overall rural areas protection: smart growth and land conservation in which they work with landowners and the Virginia Outdoors Foundation to facilitate the donation of conservation easements on private lands.
