Like Roop, Trooper Christopher James Burkes said he joined the state police because he wants to make roadways safe for motorists.
But his interest in public safety is not limited to law enforcement. Burkes, 27, attended Southwest Community College, where he majored in applied science in order to become a paramedic.
“I enjoy outdoor activities, firefighting and working as a paramedic,” he said.
Burkes, who came here from Buchanan County, said he’s also enjoyed living and working in this area.
“It’s been a very enjoyable experience. Almost everyone I have encountered has been very nice and polite,” he said. “I would like to thank everyone for all their help in getting me settled into my new assigned area,” he added.
