It says “Country Squire” on the sign at the gate, but Doug and Ginny Bruton want everyone to know that it’s been all work and no “country squiring” to make their new home in Rappahannock County exactly as they always wanted it.
And “always” goes back quite a few years. Ginny and her family, the Terhunes, moved to Amissville from New Jersey in the 60s and quickly learned to love and savor life in this county. So when Ginny married Doug, they quickly got themselves a piece of property in Castleton. There was a old house, a com crib, a bam, dated 1802, and a summer kitchen. It turned out that the summer kitchen was once a little country store that was dragged over from the other side of county Rt 622. The Brutons took down the old house, saving timbers, floorboards and the like. They turned the old com crib into an antique/craft shop, and fixed up the summer kitchen to live in on weekends.
