In spite of high spirits and an impressive opening offensive drive, the Rappahannock Panthers were unable to win last Saturday’s first home game on the new football field. The Panthers lost to the Eagles 1745.
“We started off good and we were beating them in the first quarter, but we just fell apart,” said offensive coach Tim Pullen “It doesn’t matter how good your team is when you give them the ball eight times.”
Of the ten turnovers in the game, eight of them went to the Freedom Eagles.
In the first quarter, the Panthers started off strong with a 38 yard pass from quarterback Jonathan Butler to Bobby Czekaj. Following the huge gain the Panthers instantly led the team up to the end zone scoring their first touchdown with Butler handing off to Adam Gessner on a running play.
The Panthers then proved that they were able to stop the Eagles offense, however, shortly after the turnover, the Panthers fumbled the ball.
Following the fumble the Panthers were unable to stop the Eagles strong drive that scored 6 points, however they managed to stop the two point conversion play after Panther Steve Dodson (#16) caught the ball in the end zone.
As the Panthers began returning the ball, a fumble by the Panthers caused the Eagles who immediately returned it for a touchdown, making the score 7-12.
The Panthers tried again, working together successfully for a pass to Dean Hogan who lateraled the ball to Czekaj for a touchdown, making the score 14-12.
In the following Eagles drive, they fumbled the ball with Corey Hitt recovering.
