30 years, but finally, six years. ago, they built the house they always wanted to build, and ’ were able to showcase the innumerable family heirlooms and other antiques they had been ' collecting over the years.
It seems that every piece of furniture, every painting, every platter and dish, every toy and memento has a story. Sometimes the story is from Doug’s family in Kinston, North Carolina, especially the fireplace mantel, with an 1885 Gilbert Grandmother’s clock atop it.
Sometimes it is from Ginny’s family home in New Jersey, - where the church chandelier, Dutch dining room server and * chairs claim their birth. Otherantiques have been lovingly collected over the years to form a harmonious whole, as well as interesting combinations.
The living/dining area, with brilliant swatches of red and blue upholstered furniture, features 19th century game tables, blue willow ware china, an antique fainting couch, and a beautiful oak armoire fitted with shelves displaying family pictures and other small family heirlooms. Scattered throughout the house are hand made rugs designed and made by, Ginny’s mother.
The modern, white painted ! kitchen, is dressed up with handmade bird houses and other pieces of folk art that the ' Brutons have refurbished, designed, or copied. Ginny’s mother’s collection of cookie cut- * tors, and an old pie safe keep up ; the country theme. In the back - hallway, old fishing creels, berry baskets, crocks and an old barn. lantern are displayed. ,
There are three bedrooi one on the main floor and on upstairs. All are charming! coordinated and decorated wi taste. A portrait of Ginny’s Ci War ancestor, her grandfather’i monogrammed suitcase, am an old doll's trunk, the Bruton j family cradle - all catch the ey4*
