A Winchester City Councilman was convicted in Rappahannock County General District Court Tuesday in connection with an assault of a patron at the Inn at Little Washington.
After a two hour trial. Judge Charles B. Foley convicted Jeffrey B. Buettner, 40. of misdemeanor assault and battery and sentenced him to pay a fine of $200 plus court costs which Buettner has paid.
Buettner had faced up to a year in jail and /or a $2,500 fine.
Six witnesses testified at the trial, three for the defense and three for the prosecution, which was handled by Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter 11. Luke, who also serves as the attorney for Rappahannock County.
Winchester attorney Nate L. Adams 111 defended Buettner. and m a phone conservation on Wednesday morning, would not comment on anything regarding the trial.
The incident occurred at The Inn at Little Washington on Dec. 15, 2007. Buettner and 12 others were celebrating his wife’s 40th birthday.
The complainant, Hilton D. Henderson III of Fairfax, stated in a criminal complaint filed in court that Buettner “struck me with his open palm on the right side of my head, rupturing my ear drum.”
