The closing of the Sperryville Emporium marks the end of an era, but the opening of Flavor Magazine and the initiation of tourist activities such as the Spring Car and Truck show, tours of Wasmund’s Distillery and Gourmet Rappahannock mark the beginning of another. Our barbershop celebrated 50 years of service and the Comer Store expanded. You read about the Pullen family apple butter making in the hollow and the creation of the sitting area by the river at the LINK by the Boy Scouts. Mt. Yernon Farm and Waterpenny continue to receive accolades for leading the way in the farm-to-table movement.
As we move into 2009 we will be mindful of our community members who will need support in these harsh economic times and of our friends who are ill. We also look forward to getting ready to celebrate the Shenandoah National Park Anniversary and support all efforts for land conservation and clean water projects.
Yes, the people of Sperryville make this a real village and community. 2009 will be a challenging year, but, together, we will make it a gixxl one in Sperryv ille.
