A crowd packed in the courthouse celebrated their victory Monday night when the Board of Supervisors gave their approval for the Sperryville Gateway Proposal. “This is the biggest crowd I’ve ever seen in this room in favor of a project,” John McCarthy, county administrator, said. “We’re used to crowds this large being against something not for something. It takes much more energy to be for anything.” Most of the smiling faces could be recognized from the monthly committee meetings, and 17 stood to speak praising the project, which aimed at improving pedestrian traffic and the main road in the village of Sperryville.
Monica Riddell of Washington and S. M. Leake of Sperryville are new members of the American Angus Association, reports Dick Spader, executive vice president of the national organization with headquarters in St. Joseph, Mo.
Wildlife biologist Dan Lovelace, who monitors coyote populations for this part of Northern Virginia, confirmed that there ware coyotes in Rappahannock and neighboring counties. “I know that there are quite a few in the county,” Lovelace said. Rappahannock Game > Warden Jim Bankston said that many hunters have reported coyote sightings to him and he has seen them himself both dead and alive.
