It has become an annual event to visit Laurel Mills Store on New Year's Day. The Fannons have graciously been preparing and serving their “famous" blackeyed/Seas for years. This gift to air is in keeping with a traditional southern custom that eating black-eyed peas on New Year's Day will bring prosperity and good fortune in the New Year

According to Mrs. Fannon, over 290 cups of their black-eyed peas were given out at the store on New Year's Day during a four hour period. They had a large turn-out.
