Chris added that he and his mentor “hike sometimes, go bowling, to movies, to D.C. a few times. It’s pretty cool every time we go.” He would recommend the program to other young people. “A mentor is a lot of fun to have - they match you pretty well to whoever you get.”

When Chris transferred to the Warren County school system, the pair chose to continue meeting, although they see each other only about once a month now.

Wanting a closer connection to the Rappahannock schools, Gowen offered to take on a new mentee. His second mentee, who is now 14, said the pair has lots of fun together.
