much farther up the trail from the old car, and after another couple of miles I reached Elk Wallow wayside, locked up tight and abandoned for the winter.
There were several cyclists on the drive whizzing by, and more cars than 1 expected. Two cyclists wished me a Happy New Year.
The only water source on this part of the ridge is a spring which is on the path to Jeremy’s Run, just down from the picnic tables and parking areas. I had intended to camp nearby for the evening.
But the weather was far colder than I expected. At four in the afternoon, it was freezing even in my tent.
