Rappahannock County High School wrestler Jeremy Diley proved to be a heartbreaker on Valentine’s Day with an exhausting triple overtime win over Riverhead’s Rob Dzuba.
As the period dosed, Diley rolled Dzuba onto his back to score two more points for a breathtaking 4-1 win, Region B title and win #100, the first Panther wrestler to ever reach this milestone. Diley is now 466 for the season and 100-35 for his career.
Diley will now head to Salem in a quest for the state championship. This will not be an easy road as Garrett Fosdyck (Matthews) and Alex Samaniego (Northwood) could be roadblocks in the path to the gold along with 13 other heavy’s who all have their eyes on the prize.
The first period in the Riverhead match ended 00, neither wrestler willing to commit to a move that, if unsuccessful, could end in disaster. The second period started with Diley taking the bottom position, and escaping for a 1-0 lead, in the third period, Dzuba chose bottom and successfully escaped to even the score.
One-minute sudden-death overtime started with both wrestlers in the neutral position. At the end, both were still neutral and the score1 remaim'd 1-1
