People in modern Europe today are thinking more dearly than us on this matter and there going to church has gone out of fashion while President Obama went to church his first day in office and the second day attended a prayer breakfast. In the U.S. celebrities like George Clooney have begun to question America’s affinity for religion and this has given more people the courage to embrace the atheistic point of view. Most people in Virginia are Christian not because they chose that but because that is the religion of their parents. In Pakistan most people are Muslim not because they chose that but because that is the religion of their parents. The two cultures class and now we have war and jihad. In both cases neither side is thinking because if they were to do so they would see that no religion holds up to intellectual scrutiny. After all, the definition of faith is the absence of reason.
Numerous crimes have been committed by the Protestant and Catholic churches in their history and for this reason I embrace neither. I would encourage you to read “God is Not Good" and “The God Delusion” to see tinfolly of the ways of the religious.
