abortion bill
A controversial bill that would require doctors to offer the option of an anesthetic for a fetus prior to an abortion was passed by the House of Delegates Feb. 10. Under this legislation. House Bill 2634, women would receive information about the ability of unborn children to feel pain.
While organizations like the Family Foundation garner strong support for the bill, other organizations like Planned Parenthood say it is unclear what effect the anesthesia would have on the patient. They also argue that it is unclear whether a fetus can feel pain.
The House voted 64-34 in favor of the bill; it now sits in front of the Senate for approval.

A constitutional amendment to grant nonvjolent felons the return of their rights to vote passed in the Senate Feb. 9 in a 27-13 vote and now awaits tough opposition in the House.The resolution would allow nonviolent felons who have completed all the requirements of their convictions to regain their rights to vote.
The ruling offers an alternative to the existing system that only allows the governor to reinstate voting rights for any felons. Virginia and Kentucky are the only two states that do not automatically restore voting rights for felons who have completed their sentences.
