After the Revolutionary War, Buckland’s location on the banks of wide Broad Run kept it a vibrant community with mills and a quarry. The 1820s Fauquier-Alexandria Turnpike extended to Warrenton, using the newest technology in road construction — a paving process that created Virginia’s first macadam road.
