In December 1964 a large group of interested people gathered to organize the Historical Society with emphasis on collecting, storing, and preserving records related to Rappahannock County’s long history.
The organization’s mission and resources will be on display at its annual meeting on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 3 p.m. at the society building at 328 Gay St., in Washington.
The event, to be held rain or shine, will include tours of the facility and museum plus a picnic. Meat, drinks and paper goods will be provided. Please bring a dish to share and a lawn chair.
Jean Dwyer Morris and Ruth Dwyer Kiger will present a program on the lives of many families who helped shape the county: names such as Ambrose and Edward Atkins, Bowen, Cornell and Dwyer, along with allied families of Baldwin, Beahm, Bolen, Clatterbuck, Frazier, Johnson, Waters, Woodward and Yates. These folks won’t want to miss this.
