On Oct. 3 a stunning exhibition of paintings by two Russian artists, Michael Ombish-Kuznetsov and Alexander Belaiev wall open at R H Ballard Gallery in Washington. This wall be the first time these artists and their works have been exhibited there.
The artists have very different styles and create an interesting juxtaposition. OmbishKuznetsov paints primarily realist oils and acrylics, with explorations into cubism. Belaiev has a more ethereal approach to his subjects using watercolor and oils.
Belaiev was bom in Siberia in 1950 From a very young age he was interested in both drawing and painting and from 1971 to 1976 he studied painting and graphics in Omsk. In 1983 he was voted into the National Soviet Artist Union, which made him eligible for government commissions and many other benefits •.allowing him to start working full time as an artist Belaiev works in both w atereolors and oils creating images of cityscapes or crowds of people that possess and generate energy. His work tends more to the abstract, and nature is a jumping off place for his expression.
