The distillery became the first in the state to take advantage of a July change in Virginia law that allows on-site retail sales by distillers who lease (rather than own) the farms where they grow their raw materials. After he cut the ribbon, McCarthy also bought the first bottle. “I'm not sure I'm thinking clearly about my career at this point." McCarthy joked.
