Every year, numerous

Americans splurge during the holidays, not just with spending and gift giving, but with food — lots and lots of food.

They rationalize that splurging during the holidays is normal and come Jan. 1,. they'll just make a New Year’s resolution to diet and exercise to undo the effects of a twomonth binge.

The problem is that, one, it’s so much harder to lose weight than it is to gain it, and, two, s$ many people dump their resolution by Feb. 1, if they even start at all.

This year, maybe it’s time to end the year by giving yourself a gift; change the old habits and make some new resolutions now instead of the promise to do something next year.
