Owners of lightweight trailers may pay less taxes to the county for those units next year, according to Commonwealth’s Attorney Peter Luke, who discussed Rappahannock’s motor vehicle licensing ordinance with the Board of Supervisors Nov. 5. According to Luke, the county can’t tax more than the state It means that the $20 fee due to be charged owfters of lightweight trailers beginning March 1, 1985 may be reduced considerably. Currently, owners of lightweight trailers pay $15, an amount that also may be too high The board authorized Luke to check state weights, lengths and fees in regard to trailers so the county can make its tax rates conform to those of the state
