cnanges in we msurra mortgage previsions of the Farm Tenant Act in that Congress had authorized the Farmers Home Adminstration to insure up to $200,000,000 of farm mortgages each year instead of $100,000,000 as previously.
County loan ceilings pre now being raised above their former amounts to an amount not to exceed the average cost of family type farm in the particular county.Both of these gentlemen stressed the fact that while the F. H. program had been very successful we must not overlook the fact that past 10 years have been exceedingly profitable years for the farm -families.
The F. H. A. makes short-time loans for farm operating purposes, long-term loans for the purchase and improvement of family-size farms, and loans to construct or repair farm dwellings and other buildings.
The national administrator, Dillard B. Lasseter, also spoke to the F. H. A. employees on the national outlook for Farmers Home Administration, and Dr. Paul D. Senders, Editor of the Southern Planter and Chairman of the State F. H. A. Advisory Committee discussed “Agriculture in Virginia’s Economy.” In his talk he defended the price support that farmers are receiving, stating that industry and railroads and other public carriers, as well as labor Government through tariffs and other legislation and that practically every depression that has occured in this country has been preceded by the drying up of the farmer’s dollar.
