For Newcastle Disease

Use of a vapor to control airborne spread of a serious poultry diease has been under study by the Agricultural Experiment Station in Virginia.

Experiments at the station, and under field conditions at Timberville have dealt with using triethylene glycol vapor to control air-* borne spread of Newcastle disease virus.

Recent publicity given to use of glycol vapors against airborne infections prompted the study.

Dr. E. P. Johnson, station animal pathologist, said it appears from the experiments that triethylene glycol vapors, properly used can accomplish a great deal toward controlling spread of Newcastle virus through the air. clearly, Johnson said, that the type of equipment and its installation had much influence on re-* suits obtained.

For instance, it was found the equipment for releasing and distributing vapor had to be able to achieve almost 90 per cent saturation of the air with triethylene glycol vapor to obtain effective control.
