Mr. Barksdale explained mat the nationwide sampling; of rural opinion will be through county and community meetings to which all farmers will be invited, and in many cases through a farmto-farm canvass.
A committee of two citizens from each district has been elected to carry out the survey in this county. They are: Raymond Johnson and Norman Grimsley from Stonewall; John Davis and C. If. Ramey from Hawthorne; <3. E. Johnson, Jr., Lucio Kilby, and James W. Fletcher from Piedmont; Wade H. Massie, Jr., and E. M. Jones from Hampton; J. P. Cook and Russell Sutphin from' Wakefield; and W. G. Eastham and John Lshvrence from Jackson.
In the event you are not contacted by one of these men, i£ is requested that you write, call, or go to see the members of this cimmittee and express your opinion on the farm programs serving you.
Request for the study was made by Secretary of Agriculture C. F. Brannan to determine how well the Department’s programs are fitting the needs of family farms, Mr. Barksdale said. Not lust farmers alone, but business leaders, rural ministers, housewives, instructors of farm youth, and others will be asked to make recommendations, he added.
*‘The basic idea is a fine example of democracy at work,” he said. “We want to get the ’grass roots’ thinking of everybody connected with farm life. We want farm people to share in shaping farm policies so that the resutling programs will provide the kind of service family farms need.”
