Upon securing sufficient information on every side of the question, a conclusion should be reached after exercise of our best judgment. We should be able to justify our conclusions to others but most important of all to our own consciences. Although one's convictions should be courageously defended, there should be willingness to revise an opinion •when additional information and further thought warrant it.
I believe it is undeniably true that an important obligation of every citizen is to think for himself and to use his best thinking in discharging his responsibilities as a citizen.
2. The Obligation to Work
Every citizen has an obligation to work. Self preservation, regardless of citizenship, demands that every able-bodied man shall work for his own support, the support of his family, and for security in old age. The penalty for violation of this principle, through the years, has been personal poverty and discomfort. No citizen has a right to assume that his government, his community, or his family, owes him a living. As a good citizen, every person has the responsibility to try to find for himself the occupation for which his aptitudes and abilities are best suited and to work in it to his full canacitv.
